Clemson standout, Bornkamp joins Greenville roster
Greenville, SC (February 18, 2022) – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club’s new women’s team is adding an All-American, All-ACC, All-Atlantic Region, and CoSIDA Academic All-District player to their 2022 roster, the club announced today. Clemson standout Megan Bornkamp will be joining the Triumph USL W League squad this May, pending league and federation approval.
Bornkamp, a midfielder, is the third Clemson player to commit to Greenville for the 2022 season. The first two years of Bornkamp’s collegiate career have been stellar, as the North Carollina native logged 3,396 total minutes and 18 goals. In 2021, she led the team with 10 goals and 10 assists, also leading the team in averaged minutes played with 85. Following her sophomore season, she was voted 2021 United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American, 2021 First Team All-ACC, 2021 United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Atlantic Region, 2021 ACC All-Tournament Team, 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, ACC Offensive Player of the Week, and 2021 Preseason All-ACC Team.
“I’m honored to be given the opportunity to play for the inaugural Greenville USL W league team,” said Bornkamp. “I can’t wait for what should be an amazing season!”
In her freshman campaign, Bornkamp posted 8 goals and 1 assist, led the team in minutes played, and started in all 19 matches. She was voted United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American, United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Atlantic Region, Third Team All-ACC, ACC All-Freshman Team, ACC Offensive Player of the Week, and awarded the United Soccer Coaches Division I Women’s Player of Distinction Award. Prior to her Clemson commitment, Bornkamp was ranked the 44th recruit in the country based on the IMG Academy 150, was named CSA Female Player of the Year in 2018 and US Soccer Development Academy Best XI in 2018-19. She also received one cap with both the U19 and U20 National Teams.

She seeks to invest in ways to be a strong leader on and off the field,” said Head Coach Julie Carlson. “She is a dominant factor in our team’s focus on the importance of set pieces. Along with her teammates, her decision to play for our team will not just make us successful, it will help separate us from the pack.”
Bornkamp will be playing alongside Clemson teammates, Hershfelt and Conti this summer, as well as seven other early signees. The team is set to kick off its’ first season May 8th with an exhibition match against SC United FC. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
