Greenville, SC (January 28, 2022) – The Greenville Triumph USL W League team has added two more players to their inaugural roster, the club announced today. Defender, Julie Mackin, and midfielder, Caitlyn Reilly, will be joining the team for the 2022 season pending league and federation approval. Both Mackin and Reilly will bring additional numbers and knowledge to Greenville’s pre-professional women’s team.
As a Tiger, Mackin had a memorable resume on and off the field. The Colorado Native played 4,467 minutes and started 64 games. In her senior season she recorded 23 shots, three goals, and two assists on her way to being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. In 2018, she was again named CoSIDA Academic All-District Team and a member of the All-ACC Academic Team and 2018-19 Honor Roll. In 2017, Mackin had three assists and was named All-ACC Academic Team, and CoSIDA Academic All-District Award Winner. In her freshman year, she tallied three goals and two assists while earning ACC Academic Honor Roll and the Tiger Newcomer Award.
“Julie is another great addition to our roster. She brings versatility and experience from a high level playing in the ACC and for Clemson. She absolutely loves the game and has the character of a workhorse on both sides of the ball,” said Head Coach Julie Carlson. “Julie excelled at Clemson throughout her career and just continued to improve. As a post-collegiate player, she will bring knowledge, maturity and a committed mindset to our program to really jump start the team in a positive direction.”
Following her graduation in 2020, Mackin worked as a nurse on the COVID-19 unit in the Greenville area. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in nursing from Clemson University to be a family nurse practitioner.
Caitlyn Reilly is a former Paladin and Charleston Native. During her four years at Furman, Reilly started 67 out of 68 games played, tallied 15 goals and 21 assists. In 2018, she made first team All-Southern Conference selection and was named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll. In her sophomore season, Reilly netted a hat trick against Wofford College and ranked third on the team for goals scored. Again in 2016, Reilly was a member of the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and was named Southern Conference All-Freshman Team. As a pre-collegiate player, she competed for Fort Dorchester High School and CESA ENCL.
Reilly graduated Furman in 2020 with a degree in Health Science. Following her graduation, she has continued to pursue soccer as a coach in the Upstate at 11.11 Training.
“Caitlyn brings another great Soccer IQ talent to our squad. She was such an impact player for Furman and during Open Tryouts, it was like she didn’t skip a beat,” said Head Coach, Julie Carlson. “She has the vision and technical platform to break down defenses and create great passes for attacking players in and around the 18-yard box. She is versatile and applies an important theme of this team- willingness to outwork others and problem solve.”
Mackin and Reilly will join Hershfelt, Jacobs, Conti and Thatcher for the first ever Triumph USL W League Team. Matches for the inaugural season are set to kick off in May. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
