Paladin pair to protect Greenville W League Team’s back line
Greenville, SC (March 1, 2022) – The Greenville Triumph announced today the signing of two new players for the USL W League team. Furman’s Camryn Bolick and Cameron Whitacre will be signing on the with team for its’ inaugural season, pending league and federation approval. Bolick is an outside back and Whitacre is a center back at Furman University.
Bolick finished up her sophomore season last fall with four assists and 1,654 minutes on the pitch in 19 matches. The defensive back was also named SoCon Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Month for August, a member 2021 Southern Conference Fall Academic All-Conference Team and All-Tournament team. In the past two seasons Bolick has recorded a total of 2,554 minutes and started 29 matches. Prior to college, the Ashville Native earned Conference Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior, helping lead Owens High School to three consecutive Conference titles and playoff appearances. Bolick also played club soccer at Carolina Elite Soccer Academy for their 2002 ECNL team and competed with Asheville City in the WPSL for three seasons.
Whitacre will also be joining the Triumph from the Paladins’ defensive line. While at Furman, the center back has played in 16 matches and was named to the 2020 and 2021 SoCon Academic Honor Roll. Before beginning her college career, the Greenville local led Greenville Technical Charter in goals all four seasons, totaled the school record of 48 goals, and helped the Warriors make a third-round playoff appearance for the first time in history. She was also named to the SCSCA All-State team as a junior and senior. Whitacre was a member of CESA ECNL, where her team competed in the national quarterfinals. She also competed in the WPSL last season against Bolick with the SC United Bantums.
“I am delighted to have these ladies join our program. Each will bring experience from playing in the WPSL last summer and add quality to our defending roster,” said Head Coach Julie Carlson. “Bolick has had an outstanding career with Furman and shows versatility by playing both left and right back while having the ability get forward. Whitacre brings sustainability to our center back position. I believe this program will take her a step forward in developing her presence in the back. Both players will be essential to our team’s success in building a solid defense.”
Bolick and Whitacre will help bring additional numbers to the Teams defensive third. They will be joining Bornkamp, Dike, Manfredi, Gower, Mackin, Reilly, Hershfelt, Jacobs, Conti and Thatcher on the 2022 Greenville Triumph USL W League roster. The inaugural season begins on May 8th with an exhibition match against South Carolina United FC, followed by our first regular season game at Charlotte Independence on May 15.
