Liberty inaugural season teammates join squad for second year
Greenville, SC (January 31, 2023)- The Greenville Liberty announced today the re-signings of Cameron Whitacre and Riley Parsons for their second seasons with the club, pending league and federation approval. The pair of Furman players wrapped up their senior collegiate seasons in the fall.
Whitacre, a Greenville native and former CESA ECNL player, is staying close to home after graduation attending medical school at MUSC. This season will mark her second year with the Liberty after competing alongside fellow teammates Riley Parsons, Cameryn Bolick, and Cambelle Roberson in 2022. Whitacre earned 133 minutes on the pitch during six matches last season and was a motivating force on the squad.
During her tenure in the purple and white, Whitacre logged 30 appearances, one assist and a total of 680 minutes played. Before she was a Paladin, Whitacre led Greenville Technical Charter in scoring all four seasons with 48 total goals and helped them to a third-round playoff appearance for the first time in school history. She was also named to the SCSCA All-State team as a junior and senior and competed in the WPSL with the SC United Bantams.
Parsons is also returning for her second Liberty season after a strong finish in 2022. She tallied up 229 minutes in five matches including appearances in both playoff games. A steady contributor in college, the midfielder recorded 478 minutes in just two seasons at Furman. Parsons and Whitacre helped the Paladins to a 38-17-4 overall record and 19-4-3 conference record during their time together at Furman. Parsons attended University of Alabama-Birmingham her freshman and sophomore years before transferring to Furman. She started nine of 23 matches played, recording 901 minutes on the pitch as a Blazer. Upon her graduation this May, Parsons plans to attend physical therapy school.
Parsons spent her youth soccer career competing for CESA ECNL, and her high school career as a Wade Hampton High School General. She was named Rookie of the Year as a freshman, named 2017-18 5A All-Upstate Second Team, 2018-19 5A All-Upstate First Team and competed in the North-South Game.
Whitacre and Parsons are welcomed back by fellow returning teammates Carly Thatcher and Autumn Cayelli. The Liberty is set to kick off its sophomore season this summer in Paladin Stadium. To purchase 2023 season tickets, click here.
