Versatile player returns to the field and the coaches’ box for second season
Greenville, SC (February 7, 2023)- The Greenville Liberty announced the re-signing of Sarah Jacobs, pending league and federation approval. Jacobs, a player and coach for the Liberty during the inaugural 2022 season, returns to the club in her dual role for 2023.
Jacobs returns to the Liberty following an outstanding inaugural season with the club, appearing in 14 games for a total of 1,115 minutes. The versatile player was integral part of the team’s defense during the regular season and the playoffs, appearing at center back and and midfielderthroughout the season. A seasoned leader, Jacobs appeared professionally in the Netherlands and Australia after graduating from Clemson. Stateside, she competed in the WPSL and NWSL for the Boston Breakers Reserves, Orlando Pride and NC Courage practice squads, along with FC Dallas and Asheville City SC.
After her full-time playing career concluded, she made a return to the Upstate to begin her coaching career. In 2017, Jacobs was named an assistant coach for the women’s soccer team at Anderson University under Greenville Liberty Head Coach, Julie Carlson. Jacobs took over the program as head coach in 2018. Under her leadership, the team has excelled both on and off the field. She led the team to a fourth-place finish in the South Atlantic Conference during her first season and championed the team to the top academic honor in the Trojan athletic department, the Dr. Shirley Jack Academic Excellence Award, in 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Jacobs, a native of Greer, played her collegiate soccer at Clemson University. As a four-year letter winner, she was a standout in the Tiger soccer program, earning team MVP in 2010 and the honor of captain for both the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Jacobs returns to the club alongside of Christian Brathwaite, Cameron Whitacre, and Riley Parsons. The 2023 USL W League is set to launch its second season this May. To purchase season tickets, click here.
