Jimmo and Mayes join the 2023 Liberty Roster
Greenville, SC (April 6th, 2023)- The Greenville Liberty Soccer Club has announced the signing of Sydney Jimmo and Sharon Mayes, pending league and federation approval. Both players make their way to the Upstate from the Catawba College women’s soccer following a successful 2022 season, boasting a 16-3-3 record and an advancement to the second round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship, marking the fourth consecutive NCAA appearance for the team.
Jimmo moves to Greenville from former USL W League club Peachtree City MOBA. Sydney spent her freshman campaign at Colby Sawyer College, where she was named Rookie of the Year and All-GNAC First Team. In 2022, she appeared in 12 matches and recorded 966 minutes of playing time.
Following her transfer to Catawba, the midfielder saw action in 51 matches and notched 23 goals, and nine assists in two seasons. The junior midfielder received first-team D2CCA honors and second-team USC accolades, received All-Region honors following the 2021 campaign, and finished second on the team in goals, scoring 11 last year. She spent her high school career at Champlain Valley Union in Shelburne, VT, where she excelled on the pitch, being named All-State Offensive Player of the Year and a Gatorade Player of the Year finalist.
Fellow Catawba teammate Mayes also joins the Liberty 2023 roster bringing some collegiate chemistry to the midfield. Mayes has appeared in 51 matches and recorded eight goals and ten assists over the past three seasons. Mayes was also a member of Pride SC in Colorado, where she helped lead the Pride SC Predators squad to the Semifinals in 2019.
Jimmo and Mayes will take to the pitch this summer as the Liberty begins their second season on May 12th. Greenville will look to secure their second South Atlantic Division title in a row this season and make another run at the USL W League final. To purchase your season tickets, click here.
